Is the smell of ammonia on the carpet is impossible to get rid of?

ive cleaned the carpet constantly but the more i clean it the worse the smell is getting. i know its from my dogs peeing there but i just cant find a way of getting rid of it. Ive tried fabreeze, air fresheners, as well as saturating the carpet with water to dilute the smell but nothing is working, does anyone know what can kill this smell?
